Learning Lessons
I recently had to dial back my usual physical routine for a couple of weeks. During that time, I felt some discomfort, couldn’t be out in the sun or extreme cold, and wasn’t able to sweat much. Being outside in nature really is a big part of my physical, emotional, and mental wellness!
Since I had to switch to working out indoors and slow things down, I was surprised how much I ended up loving a lot of them and even learning from them.
Modify
It would’ve been super easy to just sleep and read the whole time, but I knew that wouldn’t help me in the long run.
I spent some time on the bouncer instead of doing long walks. I did more resistance training workouts and rolled out my yoga mat more often.
Slowing Down and Being Present
When I couldn’t rush through workouts or yoga sessions to avoid sweating, it forced me to be more present and aware of my body and breath.
There’s real power in acceptance and being totally in the moment, tuned into how your body moves, connecting with your breath, and vice versa.
Strengthen Other Areas
Even though I couldn’t focus on my cardio, I was able to work on maintaining or building strength and flexibility.
I was so happy to see my yoga flexibility improve during this time.
So, when life throws you an illness, injury, busy season, holiday, or any kind of bump in the road, remember that there’s beauty in accepting where you’re at right now, making adjustments without quitting your routine, and yes… enjoying those softer, more mindful moments.
